KP Introduces New Rules for Fuel Use in Government Offices
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department has directed all provincial government departments, attached formations, and subordinate offices to immediately restrict fuel consumption to essential duties only, citing anticipated disruptions in global petroleum supply chains.
What the New Rules Cover
Under the directive, government fuel use is now limited to essential official duties, emergency response operations, and unavoidable field work. Outstation visits, ceremonial travel, and non-essential inspections have been explicitly banned until further notice.
All department heads are responsible for ensuring compliance and reporting violations to the Finance Department. Officers cannot increase fuel allotments beyond assigned limits without formal government approval.
Fuel Card System Already in Place
The new rules build on KP’s existing fuel card system, which already caps individual fuel allocations across government departments. The latest directive strengthens those controls by restricting not just how much fuel can be drawn, but which activities are permitted to consume it at all.
Authorities warned that rising global supply chain pressures could create a critical shortage situation if consumption is not curtailed proactively across government operations.
