Iran Security Chief: US & Israel Want to ‘Disintegrate’ Iran

THE STATEMENT

Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani accused the United States and Israel of seeking to break the Islamic Republic apart, stating that their true goal was “the fundamental disintegration of Iran.”

BACKGROUND

On February 28, 2026, the US and Israel launched a coordinated military operation — “Operation Epic Fury” — targeting Iran’s leadership, nuclear programme, and missile sites, with the stated aim of inducing regime change. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes, along with senior military and security figures.

LARIJANI’S KEY CLAIMS

  • Larijani said the US expected the Iran situation to mirror Venezuela — strike, take control, and it’s over — but warned: “Now they are trapped.”
  • He cautioned neighboring countries that if the US continues launching attacks from bases in the region, Iran will respond, calling it “our right and a standing policy.”
  • He warned regional countries to either prevent the US from using their territory against Iran, “or we will have no choice but to do it ourselves.”
  • He also reiterated warnings against inciting Iranian Kurds, after President Trump publicly backed a Kurdish offensive inside Iran.

US POSITION

President Trump stated there will be “no deal” with Iran except “unconditional surrender”, and said the air campaign could potentially eliminate all potential Iranian leaders.

BROADER IMPACT

The conflict has entered Day 8, with fresh strikes hitting Tehran, UAE air defences intercepting Iranian missiles, and multiple airlines suspending regional flights. The UN Secretary-General condemned the strikes, calling them a squandered opportunity for diplomacy.
